2017 Ocala Horse Properties’ Eventing Prix Invitational
Ocala Horse Properties enthusiastically returns as Title Sponsor for the 4th annual Eventing Prix Invitational, being hosted once again at Southern Cross Equestrian on March 6th & 7th, 2017.
The Eventing Prix was conceived by Olympic Event Rider and Show Jumper, Scott Keach, as an opportunity for upper-level event riders to gain competition experience in a pressurized atmosphere, similar to the Nation’s Cup team format. The show attracts event riders from the U.S.A., Canada, England, Australia and New Zealand, although each year only 4 countries can be represented.
This prestigious competition takes place the Monday and Tuesday before the Red Hills Horse Trials, creating a must-attend calendar week in Florida for elite international event riders. The team at Ocala Horse Properties has attended each year due in part to their loyalty and interest in the sport of eventing, but also due to the communal energy at this event. Matt Varney always looks forward to this yearly competition, stating “The Eventing Prix is quite simply one of our favorite events every year. The atmosphere is fantastic because it caters to any type of spectator and the show is so well run by Max & Scotty. Everyone should be putting this event on their social calendar.”
Highlights of the 2016 Ocala Horse Properties’ Eventing Prix
The Eventing Prix has become a very popular destination event for upper-level riders, last year attracting a field of 36 riders who battled it out for $15,000 in prize money. Lauren Kieffer stole the win on Meadowbrook Scarlett, blazing a fast jump-off round to sneak past Kylie Lyman on DaVinci Code, followed by Hannah Sue Burnett and Under Suspicion.
The 2016 Team winners were the US High-Performance Eventing Team consisting of Buck Davidson, Lauren Kieffer, Lynn Symanski and Phillip Dutton.
This year, Lauren Kieffer is one of several top area competitors who is anticipated to return to vie for an increased prize purse of $20,000! Other top international competitors who have attended the Eventing Prix include Jennie Brannigan, Jessica Phoenix, Selena O’Hanlon, Joe Meyers, Sara Murphey, Caroline Martin, Jonathan Holling, Liz Halliday, Curt Martin, Bobby Meyerhoff, Elisa Wallace and many more!
Competition Schedule and Format
- Monday, March 6th, 12 Noon – Warm Up Class (1.15m) – Sponsored by Doug Hannum Equine Therapy
This class is open to all riders entered in the Eventing Prix Invitational, who can bring up to 3 horses to compete over the 1.15m one round, speed class, for $1000 in prize money.
- Tuesday, March 7th, 2:00 pm – Eventing Prix Invitational (1.30m) – The team order of go will be drawn the night before the competition, with team captains deciding the order of go within their team. The first round determines the team winners, but with the winning round format, the top 10 individuals from the first round will come back for the jump-off. That high pressured jump-off decides the individual overall winner!
Marc Donavan will return again this year as the course designer.
Ocala Horse Properties continues to support this great event every year as it exemplifies how our equestrian community comes together for fun, entertainment, and some serious horse competition. There is no better competition of this type for event riders in Marion County with such an energized atmosphere for spectators and riders alike.
Scott Keach and Max Corcoran thrive on bringing this event back every year to Southern Cross Equestrian, “We enjoy having everyone at the farm, and it’s a fun day to watch the top international event riders & horses in a festive & educational environment for everyone!”
Ocala Horse Properties also loves that the event is free and open to the public. Spectators are welcome to bring a chair and can purchase food and drink on the grounds from Humble Pie Pizza and other area vendors.
If you want to step it up a notch, there are VIP tables available on Tuesday, which includes an open bar and food by Celebrations Catering.
