The team at Ocala Horse Properties met Liz Halliday-Sharp and her husband Al Sharp in 2013 when they were actively looking for an equestrian property in Ocala.

During their quest to find the perfect home for Horsepower Equestrian, a friendship was formed between Chris, Rob, Matt, Liz and her husband Al. Attending Ocala area events to cheer on Liz became a regular occurrence for Ocala Horse Properties.

The Desino Brothers and Matt Varney can’t say enough positive things about Liz.

“Liz is a client of ours and has been so supportive of Ocala Horse Properties. Like many of our loyal clients, she’s become a great friend, and we have always admired her enthusiasm and work ethic with her horses.”

Liz’s string of event horses is exceptional, but one, in particular, caught the eye of the team at Ocala Horse Properties. Deniro Z stood out.

Niro is a young KWPN who has risen easily through the levels with top placings at major events throughout the US and abroad. With 6 US starts since 2016, he has either won or been 2nd at each of his USEA events, recently winning the Intermediate at Rocking Horse in January, placing 2nd in the Intermediate at Ocala Horse Park and winning the 2*at Pine Top in Georgia. His record in England has been equally as impressive.

Over the years Ocala Horse Properties has actively supported the equestrian industry through event sponsorship and horse ownership, and when the team learned of the potential to become a part of Liz’s and Deniro Z’s future, they jumped on the opportunity.

With Liz and Niro’s phenomenal win this past weekend at Carolina International, clearly the decision to invest in this partnership is looking to be a wise one. This pair took an early lead after dressage and held that lead from start to finish, topping a highly competitive international 2* division with 62 starters.

“The three of us are really excited to support the sport not just as sponsors, but as active owners. All three of us individually own (or have owned) jumpers, dressage, and 3-day eventers and we couldn’t think of a better opportunity to get behind Deniro Z and Liz Halliday. They are a fantastic combination and we are thrilled to see their win the first time out with us.” – Rob & Chris Desino and Matt Varney

To show their full commitment, the team at OHP has purchased the entire syndicate of Deniro Z, which will enable Liz to develop Niro to the top of his potential and to continue to compete him here in the states and in Europe when they return to their yard in England for the summer.

Liz is elated about this new development in her relationship with Ocala Horse Properties, stating,

“We have been great friends with the boys at Ocala Horse Properties since we first found our fantastic Ocala horse farm with their help in 2013. When I began trying to syndicate Niro this year I really wanted to put together a group of great people who would enjoy being a part of this horse’s progression and success, and it’s so awesome to have them become a part of our team! I couldn’t be happier to have them on board and to have the support from such good friends and top professionals. Hopefully, this will be the start of many successes and fun events together as a partnership – Niro and I will do our best to make them proud!” – Liz Halliday

Short term plans for Liz and Niro include competing at the CCI2* at Ocala this April before they head back to England. There, Niro will have a little break before attempting his first Advanced in the summer with the ultimate goal being in the CIC3* 8- & 9-year-old class at Blenheim in September. They will return to Ocala with their eyes set on the Jockey Club CIC 3*in the fall, but Liz is careful not to push Niro too fast.

“I definitely think he has the ability to be a 4* horse and it would be amazing to take him around Rolex one day. I also think and hope he could maybe be a team horse for me in the future, but for now, I really think it’s important to get him solid at each level along the way, so I will be looking at producing him properly rather than rushing him through the levels too fast.” – Liz Halliday

One thing is certain, the team at OHP is behind Liz and Niro 100% as their career together unfolds and they are proud to support such an exemplary athletic partnership in the sport of eventing.
